Door bells also go bad and need replacing. They can be upgraded to intercom or video intercoms which is popular in city neighborhoods for safety purposes. There are three main parts of a door bell system to consider:
- The Doorbell Button
- The Door Bell Chime
- The Door Bell (from 120volt to 12volt transformer)
When your door bell goes bad it is a good idea to have all three parts replaced at the same time.
How much will it cost?
It can seem expensive to call an electrician to JUST replace a broken doorbell or intercom. Doorbells and intercoms are also much less expensive if replaced in combination with other electrical work, for example:
- ceiling fans installation and/or cleaning
- install track lighting
- hang light fixtures
- replace old, ungrounded and unsafe outlets
- installation of in-floor outlets
- cover plates
- dimmer installation
- hang flat screen TV
- whole house surge protector
- home electrical safety inspection
