The holiday season is officially here! Can you believe that it’s already time to celebrate Thanksgiving and start getting the house decorated to show off your holiday spirit? Homeowners across the country will begin decorating the day after Thanksgiving and it’s important to follow these safety tips so your holiday isn’t ruined this year:
- Electrical Cords: before you start plugging things in, make sure all extension cords are marked for proper use. If you’re going to be using them indoors, make sure they specifically state they’re intended for indoor use. It’s also vital to inspect all lights, decorations and extension cords for damage before plugging them in.
- Heat Sources: it’s a tradition to hang stockings and other decorations on or around the fireplace, but that’s not the only place where decorations could come in contact with heat. Make a conscious effort to keep all decorations at least three feet away from anything that gets warm and produces heat.
- Power Switches: it’s not uncommon for homeowners to leave their decorations on while they fall asleep, however this is a major no-no. If you consider yourself a forgetful person, you may want to set a recurring alarm on your mobile device as a reminder.
