There are lots of ways to light up your yard - from downlights and spotlights to string lights and anything in between but all of these hardwired options will cost you. There’s got to be a way to use the energy from the sun to light up your yard at night, right? Why yes, of course there is!

Solar Powered Lights have been around for years now, but homeowners like you often question whether or not they really work. We’re sure you’ve heard stories about how they were great for a few days or a few weeks and then they wouldn’t turn again, right?

Well, placement is key…

We’re going to be extremely transparent with you and tell you that if your yard has substantial tree coverage or lots of shady areas, solar lights won’t be your best bet.

But if your yard receives plenty of sunlight, solar powered lights are well worth it.

Here are a few things to keep in mind:

  1. Even if your yard is mostly shaded, you can still utilize solar powered lights, but you’ll need to incorporate photovoltaic panels on the roof, which can be costly.

  2. Most of the solar powered lights on the market today use LED technology. These bulbs tend to hold their charge longer and shine brighter than incandescent or fluorescent models.

  3. Solar powered lights come in a variety of hues, shapes and colors. You can go for a soft white or amber-colored light, or go for something more fun and playful like red, green or blue.

  4. The higher the lumen level on the box, the brighter the light bulb. But they must receive adequate sunlight in order to shine their brightest.
