Put an End To Flashing Motion Sensor Lights

Security and peace of mind might be the two last things on your mind if your motion sensor lights aren’t doing their job. If they keep flashing on and off, whether there’s an actual intruder setting them off or not, it can really drive a homeowner crazy. It’s time to put an end to the madness once and for all - see below to find out what you can do if your motion sensor lights are flashing constantly:

  1. Check to make sure the lights are flashing and not flickering. If they’re flickering, or producing unsteady, quick changes in brightness, you likely have a bad bulb or a bad wiring connecting between the bulb and the fixture. Try changing the bulb and if that doesn’t do the trick, call in an experienced electrician to check the wiring.

  2. Check the sensor settings. Most motion sensor lights have an easily adjustable sensor. The sensor is the part that “trips” when it notices a significant change in heat within its range of vision (this is what happens when somebody or something passes by the light). You may need to adjust the area in view or the “range” dial.

  3. Check the angle range. Every motion detector has a range and sometimes it’s too wide or too narrow. If it’s too wide, it could pick up on things like tree branches moving or bushes swaying. You may need to use small pieces of electrical tape to narrow the range.
