Bees are supposed to buzz, your electrical panel is not. Unfortunately, this is a problem for thousands of homeowners across the country and it’s definitely a cause for concern. Aside from the noise driving you nuts, you’re probably afraid to even go near the source for fear of being electrocuted and quite frankly, you should stay away. Find out what’s causing your electrical panel to make a buzzing noise, below:
- A Gentle Humming Noise: luckily for you, a slight hum is most likely not a problem at all. In fact, it’s normal. As electrical currents flow through the breakers, they often produce a humming noise as a result of the vibrations. No reason to worry here!
- A Moderate Buzzing or Sizzling Noise: in most cases, there’s a problem when you hear moderate buzzing or sizzling sounds coming from the breaker. It means you have a loose or damaged wire and you should call in an electrician to find and repair the problem wire right away.
- A Sever Buzzing Noise: can you hear the electrical panel buzzing even when you’re not near it? That’s a major red flag. It likely means there’s a bad breaker, or multiple bad breakers, that aren’t tripping when they’re supposed to. An electrician should be called in to replace the breaker right away otherwise you run the risk of dealing with an electrical fire.
